Being a NUST graduate myself, I can say with complete confidence that NUST provides the best opportunities for its students. With NUST's shift to its new campus, it is now equipped to start a large number of new courses with all the required facilities and more. When talking about the Engineering courses, there is no comparison between the two as NUST offers a large number of courses as compared to FAST. While, there is no doubt about the quality of a CS graduate from FAST, I believe that the time is fast approaching when NUST will take over in that area as well. The reason for this is that NUST has invested highly in research as compared to FAST. At NUST you get to work with world renowned scientists as part of its collaboration with CERN, Stanford, UNCC and other centers of excellence world wide. Under graduate students are encouraged to participate actively in research activities to the point that having under graduate students who have a number of international publications has become a norm at NUST. Taking this research culture to its next logical step, NUST has its own Technology Incubation Center (TiC), which helps to convert research into business by providing incubation services for start ups.

Good Points

Listed in the top 400 Universities of the world (improved its rating by around 100 positions since last year)

Highly encouraging research culture

Highly qualified faculty

A new campus equipped with latest technologies

A very well established international repute

Cheaper than FAST

High international exposure in the form of international delegates, hosting of conferences (e.g. HONET), as part of research teams etc.

Provides opportunity to convert ideas to businesses

Local as well as international grants for varying purposes

Bad Points

Still needs some time to mature (to come on par with International Universities)

While NUST still has campuses scattered all over Pakistan (Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Risalpur), it has begun the process of building its own new campus and all the other campuses will be closed eventually. So, students from other parts of Pakistan will need to move to Islamabad to pursue studies.
