KARACHI: The second Pakistan Advertisers Society (PAS) Awards 2012 night belonged to Unilever and advertisement agency Lowe and Rauf as together they swept away six awards for various brands under the multinational firm’s banner.
At a glittering event at the Expo Centre here on Friday night, along with winning the top award- the Campaign of the Year- for Vim brand’s re-launch, Unilever Pakistan took home the laurels for Knorr, Sunlight, Vim and Paddle Pop. A seventh award, with ad agency JWT, was won by Unilever for Sunsilk.
Ad agencies, Adcom Pvt Limited and JWT tied at the second spot as they bagged three awards each. Made for Stage Productions won under the Art, Culture and Entertainment category, whereas Telenor Pakistan’s easy paisa beat top banks under the Banking and Financial Services category to take home the prize.
Pepsico proved that its Ramadan campaign ‘Kisne kaha tha Pepsi Rs65 ki kardo’ remains unbeatable as it grabbed the first award of the night under the Cold Beverages category. Hot beverages went to Tapal Tea, while Engro Foods won a trophy under the Breakfast, Food and Dairy group.
Wateen, Arif Habib Group, Dawn media group won under the categories of Computer and Internet Services, Construction and Real Estate and Media respectively. Meanwhile, Haier, Father and Sons Pvt Ltd and British Council won the categories of Consumer Electronics, Healthcare and Fitness and Media Innovation respectively.
Shukat Khannum Hospital won the Public Sector, Government and CSR category, English Biscuit Manufacturers won the Snacks and Confectionery award, Nokia’s dual sim advertisement won under Telecommunication Hardware Manufacturers and Djuice won the Telecommunication Service Provider award.
Hosted by Pakistan Advertisers Society (PAS), a representative body of all the advertisers of Pakistan, these awards acknowledged and honoured ‘advertising that works’ i.e. the best of the best in marketing and advertising communication.
“The prime objective behind this award programme is to raise the standard of advertising in Pakistan by encouraging our professionals and celebrate the success of the industry,” said PAS Chairman Aly Mustansir.
PAS Director Qamar Abbas explained how the jury had reached their decision on the winners, adding that 30 percent weightage had been given to strategic challenge and objective of the ad campaign, 30 percent to the idea, 30 percent to bringing the idea to life and 10 percent to the result of the campaign.
A total of 130 submissions were received in 26 categories. A number of celebrities like Javaid Shaikh, Behroze Sabzwari, Mathira, Maheen Khan, Tapu Javeri, Nabila, Arjumand Rahim, Nida Yasir, Chef Shai, Fahad Mustafa, Chef Mehboob and Nazia Malik were invited as special guests to give the awards to the winners.
Industry stalwarts like Anwar Rammal, Imran Syed, Chairman AAP and Masood Hashmi, President MAP were also present to give awards to the winners. The show stopper of the event was a great performance by Alamgir and Fusion.
